Event Summary
Limestone Way Ultra – starting from Ashbourne “the gateway to the Peak District” the 69 km / 42.9 mile ultra route heads north following the Limestone Way all the way to the finish line in Hope in the Dark Peak. This is a challenging yet rewarding run, whilst certainly not mountainous the continual undulations of the route means you will ascend an impressive 1590 m / 5217 ft of vertical elevation during your journey north.
Previous experience is essential for anyone tackling the ultra distance – when you enter you need to provide details of similar distance events that you have undertaken in the past 2 years.
Limestone Way Half Ultra – the most popular route option which tackles the northern 27.5 km/ 17 mile section of the ultra route starting in Monyash and finishing in Hope. Like the ultra it is a point point trail run so provides that real sense of embarking on a journey but the distance is a far more attainable goal for the majority of trail runners.
The Limestone Way is a permanently way marked walking trail that uses a combination of footpaths, bridleways and some interlinking country lanes to pass through the dramatic dales and beautiful Peakland villages of the White Peak. It is named after the white carboniferous limestone which is prevalent in the landscape in the southern part of the Peak Park and what gives name to the White Peak.
The whole route is signed with a combination of permanent Limestone Way signs and fingerposts plus we add our Dark & White arrows wherever the route is not obvious.
There will be three (one on the half) marshalled checkpoints/feed stations en-route which will provide drinks and nutritional snacks; all checkpoints will have a cut off times after which runners will not be allowed to continue and when convenient you will be transported to the finish.
For full details please CLICK HERE to visit the event information page.
At the finish venue a meal (including a vegetarian option) plus hot/cold drinks will be provided to all runners.
Sorry no walkers this event is for runners only.
**IMPORTANT** Both the Ultra and Half are linear routes and if you choose to not pay for the early morning transport to the start you will have to arrange your own transport to either; get to the start from the finish location or to get from the finish back to the start location after the event. The paid organised transport is only in the morning before the start – there is no organised transport back to the start after the finish.
